Cactus Bay Apparel and Sibley's West: Boosting Arizona Businesses

Posted by John Wolfe on 12th Nov 2019

This is a series of posts spotlighting Arizona businesses that share their products with Sibley's West, as part of the "Small Business Boost" award efforts of 3TV/CBS 5, BNC National Bank, the Arizona Small Business Association and Cox Business.

One of Sibley's West's longtime suppliers is the well-known Phoenix company, Cactus Bay Apparel.

Cactus Bay has been producing garments since 1996. It was started by Lynee Carlson and Murray Cohen.

They settled in Phoenix for the climate, the beauty and the opportunity to expand the business. Phoenix proved to be a good hub for distribution around the country.

They manufacture a ladies novelty clothing line, that includes ladies tops, tunics, tanks, jackets and even tops for girls.

Each is embellished with artwork that is original and exclusive to Cactus Bay Apparel.

Lynee is the creative talent that creates all the art and designs. Their offices, production and shipping are in Phoenix. Murray is in charge of production and travels to Los Angeles regularly to oversee the manufacturing, dying and cutting of fabrics and shirt styles

"A good part of our line is devoted to Southwest and Western designs, which comes from their love of Arizona," said Lorena Orive, the company's office administrator.

The design themes run the gambit from flora and fauna, foods and wines, to popular city and western themes.

These are tops, missy-sized and accented with rhinestones overlaid on to multi-colored subtly printed tops. They are lightweight, easy to pack and very comfortable to wear in most every climate.

"They can be worn to most any place, for most any occasion in both a casual or dress up mode," Lorena said.

The desire is to produce quality garments that are conversation pieces.

"If you are wearing a Cactus Bay top and people ask you, 'Where did you get that top?', then we have done our job," Lorena said.

They are helped by many independent representatives across the country. Sibley's West has been boosted over the years through the efforts of Elizabeth Gilbertson.

She is an Arizona native, born and raised in Scottsdale. She is also a Sun Devil, and uses her experiences to guide stores toward popular designs.
