Dirt Shirts and Sibley's West: Boosting Arizona Businesses

Posted by John Wolfe on 22nd Jul 2019

This is a series of posts spotlighting Arizona businesses that share their products with Sibley's West, as part of the "Small Business Boost" award efforts of 3TV/CBS 5, BNC National Bank, the Arizona Small Business Association and Cox Business.

Funny story. In April of 2011, Roger Williams of Arizona Dirt Shirts dropped off an order and, knowing we were less than five months old and with summer ahead, said, "Have a nice summer. We'll probably see you again in the Fall."

About a month later, we placed another order. Roger came in and, as he waved goodbye, said, "See you in the Fall."

In mid-June he came in with another order.

"What are you guys doing?" he asked. "Don't you know it's summer?"

It's been like that ever since.

The Original Arizona Dirt Shirts are Arizona originals -- using the iron-rich dirt of the state to dye white T-shirts with that distinctive orange color.

The Mesa company is one of our 55 original suppliers from December 2010.

The company was started in Hawaii in the 1980s by Randy Williams. Here's a video about them.

As this short clip from "Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe" shows, adversity was the mother of invention.

In time, Randy talked with Roger, and Arizona Dirt Shirts were born.
