Our first "One-Man Show and Sale" with Payson potter Gary Houston takes place this Friday and Saturday, Dec. 1-2, at Sibley's West.
The event will feature Gary's high-fired stoneware plus 50-60 unique, one-of-a-kind pieces he has created just for the show.
He will meet guests for a show and reception from 5 to 8 pm Friday night, followed by the sale on Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm.
This is a great opportunity to see a wide array of ceramic, functional art and meet the artist behind it.
Here's a video we did with Gary at his studio:
Here's a bit more about Gary:
Born in Banff, Alberta, Canada, Gary Houston began working with clay at an early age. He moved to Southern California in 1979 where he was the proprietor of an Art Gallery, which was part of his pottery factory. He moved to Payson, Arizona in 2003 where he taught Ceramics at the Community College.
Items that he has crafted can be found in the Robby Burns Museum in Scotland; homes in France, Great Britain the Philippines and Asia.
Gary produces decorative and functional items in the same precise fashion as he did 40 years ago. All items are high fire stoneware, lead free, oven, microwave and dishwasher safe. His artistic designs are suitable for home, patio or office.
