Jack Babicke has spent a career in gifts, both as an owner of Hallmark stores and a sales rep or manager for more than 40 companies, including Ty Beanie Babies, after moving here from upstate New York.
Last October he and his son, Chris, determined that there was room in Arizona for some new products,
So they expanded JB Sales and Consulting into a provider of items, using Chris's designs.
Their colorful saguaro pens have been a hit, as have their new product, cactus-shaped nail files.
"We wanted to do a nicer souvenir in the market," Jack said.
Chris, who is an Arizona State graduate and an artist, comes up with new takes on traditional items -- incorporating his images in car coasters, magnets and keychains.
The Mesa company has grand plans to expand its offerings, in order to provide new souvenirs for a new generation of visitors.
"We're having fun," Jack said.
