Dave Munsey, Local Hall of Fame Journalist and Emmy Award Winning Weatherman
After an impressive 51 years in broadcasting journalism, where he was honored as a Hall of Fame journalist, a national Emmy-award-winning weatherman, and the Valley's foremost water safety advocate, Dave Munsey has added the title "author."
He recently published his first book, “Munsey Business: 51 Years of Weather, Water Safety and Celebrity Interviews.”
“I wrote this book to tell the story of my life in broadcasting and all of the fun that my career had brought me,” Dave said. “It was an exciting journey that was full of different twists and turns, and I look forward to sharing these behind the scenes anecdotes with all of those who tuned in over the years.”
Dave will share anecdotes with guests and sign books during a signing event at Sibley's West from noon to 2 pm Saturday, Sept. 15.
In his 42 years in Phoenix, Dave met Bob Hope, had breakfast with Louis L'Amour, and literally broke bread with Barry Goldwater.
He met the original Superman and spent time with Morey Amsterdam. He interviewed "Mr. Whipple," Erma Bombeck and Glen Campbell.
But perhaps he is best known for his tireless efforts to promote water safety, which he reinforced every broadcast with his phrase, “Watch Your Kids Around Water.”
The book was released on June 8 – a year following Munsey’s retirement – “Munsey Business” details how growing up in rural North Dakota among a family of nine children brought him into a career on camera, followed by never-before-told stories (with never-before-seen photos) from his celebrity interviews.
