Thank you, Chandler shoppers and Arizona authors!

Sibley’s West: The Chandler and Arizona Gift Shop collected 107 children’s books sponsored by guests in March and Arizona children’s authors for the Children’s Cancer Network.

The books, including titles like “The Tiniest Tumbleweed” by Kathy Peach and “Bubby’s Puddle Pond” by Carol Hageman, were presented to the CCN team on Monday, April 15.

“What a great outpouring of support for the Children’s Cancer Network,” said Sibley’s West owner Michelle Wolfe. “Throughout the month, following our ‘Peach and Friends’ children’s authors event on March 9, many visitors to the store purchased books to donate to the cause.”

CCN, a non-profit organization formed in Chandler in 2005, helps Arizona children and families dealing with childhood cancer. Through donations and fund-raising, CCN assists families with its Gas and Food Card Program, the "Holiday Surprises" Adopt-a Family Program, and the biannual Childhood Cancer Survivorship Conference.

Each book will be placed in an “Admission Bag” backpack for children facing cancer treatments. It includes practical necessities and reassuring comforts for an unexpected hospital stay. Among the items included in each bag are a journal, a toothbrush, toothpaste, resource lists and books.

“Peach was tireless in planning this effort, promoting it and inviting fellow authors to participate,” Wolfe said. “She was always there to explain the needs of CCN and ways we can all help.”

The March 9 event featured Peach and fellow children’s authors Conrad Storad, Barbara Renner, Michael Hale, Al Quihuis, Linda Ekman Adams, Eileen Pieczonka.
