Sibley's West, guests boosted by return of Christy MacKellar

Posted by John Wolfe on 2nd Jul 2018

Yes, that new face with the big smile at Sibley’s West is Christy MacKellar.

Our first employee has rejoined the shop to share her talents for displays and gift baskets.

And she is excited about it!

“Making gift baskets, doing displays, talking with people – it allows me to be more creative,” Christy said. “It’s everything I’m looking for.”

Christy spent the last three years as the floral designer at the Albertsons in Ocotillo, doing arrangements and completing baskets for guests. It was a position she enjoyed.

“I really like the challenge of helping customers,” she said. “People come in and they need something fast.”

Christy has hit the ground running, even producing three Arizona baskets for a young man on Saturday.

"Christy has such an eye for putting various elements together in an attractive presentation," said Michelle Wolfe, owner of Sibley's West. "We are excited to be able to tap that talent for our store displays and our gift-basket initiative."

This month Sibley’s West is introducing a slate of Arizona-themed gift baskets for the store and online at

Christy has already enhanced some displays, using her artist talent to create flowery pieces using Arizona pottery.

She will continue to produce her My Hidden Heart greeting cards, under her pen name, “Cricket,” for Sibley’s West and a host of other stores in Arizona and across the country. Her art is pointillism and she hides a heart in every design.

The quote on the back of every card is hers: “Take a moment to find my hidden heart; I hope it inspires you to find yours.”

Christy is a native of Detroit and grew up in LeRoy, Mich. She earned an associate’s degree in commercial art from Ferris State University.

She got married and raised three children in Mt. Pleasant, Mich., teaching art part-time for 13 years.

In 2000 she moved to Chambersburg, Pa. and became the buyer and decorator at a gift shop and candy store. She spent seven years with the operation, a position that included trips to New Jersey and New York to secure new products.

In 2010 she moved to Arizona to pursue a more creative life. She launched My Hidden Heart and was one of Sibley’s West’s original 55 suppliers.

She said that creating displays comes easy to her.

“I’m excited to be back,” Christy said. “I love the artists here. I think the creativity in the store will help me with my own art.”

She says loves to create gifts for guests and individualize them to their wishes.

“Whatever they want in a box, or a bag, or a basket, we can do it,” she said.
