How could one describe the new Flix Brewhouse in Downtown Chandler?
Well, one view is that Flix is a restaurant and brewery where they show first-run movies.
Flix, which opened Dec. 19, has nine theaters of various capacities with tiered seating. The tickets are $9 for matinees and $11 for evening shows.
What makes it different is its food fare and beers. It really is a restaurant, with menu selections from "prequels" (appetizers) like a Bavarian pretzel with queso dip and a beer mustard dip or chicken wings or popcorn, ranging in price from $6.95 to $11.95.
There is also a selection of scratch pizzas and various wraps and salads.
The entrees -- from $10 to $13.95 -- include burgers, sandwiches, chicken tenders, and fish and chips.
The most expensive item is a cheese and charcuterie board for two ($14.95).
There is also a children's menu.
For sweets, in addition to typical theater candy, there is a menu of desserts, including cheesecake and warm cookies.
The menu also features two pages of craft beers.
Flix tries to make movie-going and dining a good experience.
They ask you to show up 30 minutes before your movie's start time, in order to seat you and get your order completed before the movie starts. At that time, the doors close.
You can still order items during the movie, using a pad and pencil, with servers trying to inconspicuously sliding in and out with your order.
The tiered seating limits distractions by the servers in front of you.
The seats are comfortable -- some recline -- and each one has a table that rolls back to you after you sit down.
You can purchase seats online or at the door. Flix is open every day.
